I know what you're saying, I've spent more time than is feasible while working full time involved in community projects in my own time and at my own expense but I still do it because I think it's worthwhile. Still, that wasn't really what the original comment was about, but thanks for the guilt trip, I was only looking out for you. If you want to give free adverts it's your lookout. Also, I'm not criticising those who do make money out of community archaeology, good for them, I just don't like seeing it dressed up as somehow more worthy, which sometimes seems to be the implication. Or am I being paranoid?

I don't quite understand why the hip gentleman illustrated on the poster appears to be wearing a collar and tie. Surely that's not the kind of thing that was hip and cool in the 1960s.....

BAJR Wrote:@ Kevin... unless it was a kipper tie. I'm thinking that Warwickshire CC have reused an image from another advert and just dressed up the tailors dummy in another set of clothes, but forgot to take the collar and tie off. This might possibly have been the Community Accountancy Scheme.....'Accountancy Warwickshire - Count it Man!!. Many local communities are fascinated by the world of banking. We are here to help.....dress up like a banker with the help of your local debt advisory service. Diddle your neighbours and friends out of their life savings. Enjoy the thrill of rolling in piles of borrowed Moolah. Find out from Unit of One about your worthless pension fund and how we (the County Council) are raking it in'.....etc etc

But on a more serious note....an article from today's Guardian highlights how unpaid 'community' work programmes can undermine paid employment. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/j...ur-growing

Aye.... serious point indeed. fortunately not what community archaeology does. (or should not) in fact community archaeology increases employment for archaeologists.,
Needless to say - and sorry, but I can't name the names. but a couple of unpaid intern 'jobs' have come my way recently - neither of them allowed on BAJR... as far as I am concerned. a job is a job.

If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers
