Black Dog - my life is in ruins
#41
Kevin,

As a lapsed member of the IfA I would be happy for you to do that. If they need to contact me directly (as the initiator of this thread) I'd welcome their input.

you dont have to do medication to beat depression, i know ive done it. but you DO need help. the best thing that happened to me was when i was told 'you are suffering from clinic depression'. then i could own it. it was an illness. you have a condition you get the right treatment to fix it. i did it 6 years ago and my life changed. yes i get down and yes i get the early signs but now i know what they are and i recognise them and most importantly i know how to deal with them. That means i know i will NEVER drop into the deep deep mire of total depression i did again. I appreciate the stigma attached to 'mental' illness. and yes, i am cautious who i tell but i make myself be open about it to others and perhaps it will help them to seek help before it consumes them.
just wanted to share that.

the IfA is conducting a review of its communication practices. in it the survey asks what issues would be of interest to people. this might be the place to raise the topic of this thread
you do not need to be a member of the IfA to do the survey

my pleasure
excellent stuff destroyingangel
only by making our voices heard can we achieve anything
everyone else who has a squeak is well-advised to use this opportunity
if we raise enough awareness of a variety of such issues within the IfA, hopefully the fallout will extend to encompass and to the benfit of the whole profession

Good advice gwyl... here is a gilt-edged chance for people to make their opinions heard. It's not often the IfA has this... make the most of it.

(note to self... do not listen to Radiohead's Kid A while feeling a bit down!)

I definately agree, particularly with seeking help. Depression affects men and women differently nor is there a singular cure all, which is why it is important to seek assistance. I think the many posts attest to what works for some.

Most definately, vigilance is so important.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
