Ok, as some of you may know my original trade was as a motor mechanic. I earned my living doing this until a short time ago, so with all my experience of what car to buy, that just wont die, that always starts every morning, always passes the mot, gets you pulled by the cops cos it looks so rough but they have to let you go cos it is actually legal, and is good on fuel and fairly easy to repair. is this the car you are looking for?
well its a nissan, probably around 1990- 1994, probably a micra or a bluebird. petrol or diesel these cars just deliver the goods on a daily basis, they dont let you down and just go on and on and on.
A bit like i have here actually!!
p.s if anyone wants to ask me a question about a car problem feel free, i'm here to help.

I'm currently running about in an 87 BMW 325I. Cost me ?700 a couple of years ago. Sucks a bit of juice but has got me from Stirling to Landsend and a hell of a lot of places in between. Only had to buy new tyres and replace a snapped manifold bolt during this time. I know 2.5 litres is a bit big, but makes the long runs easy.

For me it has to be a 80's VW Polo or Golf, big load space for tools,35mpg, comfy and will run without oil or water for a suprisingly long way.You can still pick em up for ?200.

Yes, the vw's are great but they can be bloody expensive both to buy and fix. they are good value though as they do last well!!

Old ex-army landrover. Cheap, easy to fix and plenty of room in the back for the easel, water-colours and hamper with cucumber sandwiches, champagne and strawberries and cream!
Actually, my favourite ride was the ex-northern electric transit van I had. It was easy to fix and had plenty of space inside. Petrol consumption was not brill, but I could sleep over on site and save money on rent and petrol at the same time. It lasted me years until the missus demanded that I replace it with something that did not attract the attention of the police so much.

My 150 squid motor is the sexiest racing red vw polo coupe s (1987). If it had a pulse, I`d definately do it. Love it.......
