There appears to be a friends of Dorking cemetery listed on the mole valley web page, it could be worth contacting them to see if MW is in Dorking. There is a link on the following page:

Leatherhead parish church is still taking cremated remains now according to their web site so it could probably be either.

Following Hist.Build's suggestion, I contacted Dorking Cemetery today and got a nice e-mail back.
Unfortunately there is no record of Wheeler having been cremated or buried in Dorking and none of the staff can recall having seen a monument of any kind at that place, although they told me that there is a private crematorium in Leatherhead that might know something more. I'll keep trying.
I have heard via another web site that Flinders Petrie's head has been 'verifiably' located at the Royal College of Surgeons building in Lincoln's Inn Fields, despite some suggestions that this was lost in transit between Palestine and London.

Randals Road Crematorium. This serves most of the leatherhead area of Mole Valley and the surrounding villages. If he died in Leatherhead and was not taken to his 'home' then he would have been burnt there.
Wheeler just does not seem like a Leatherhead kind of guy.
