Quote:I guess in the land of Dinosaurs, the current squeeze on public spending that will result in cuts to museums, libraries, archaeological curators, EH, HS and CADW etc etc has nothing whatsoever to do with the world banking crisis and its consequences.
Hah, its no good being sarcastic by being unintentionally true. The public spending squeeze would be happening anyway, regardless of any financial crisis, and of course is making the situation worse. Most of the cuts to museums, curators etc are, deep down, nothing to do with a world banking crisis. Its ideological - using the supposed need for cuts as an excuse. With councils being told to save tens of millions over 2 or 3 years does anyone think that the tens of thousands saved by laying off the odd HER officer, eventually once redundancy costs etc are factored in, make a noticeable difference?
Obviously ,if I'm wrong, as soon as the economy is declared to be OK, then every single public authority will immediately rehire/expand their heritage depts back to where they were if not beyond...
