Not all "not particularly well-written" books are children's books. Porn books don't tend to be literary masterpieces, as far as I'm aware. I still wouldn't call them children's books... Besides, you can be a big fan of Conrad, Woolf, Lawrence and the others and still love your Tolkien. IMO, it has nothing to do with how many "adult" books you've read/studied/analysed. You can appreciate a book for what it has to offer, and a good story is more than what most books can boast. (And no, I'm not a Tolkien fan, I don't roleplay and I don't wish I was an Elf. I just find misplaced condescension towards books/films etc. annoying. Unless it has to do with Twilight, in which case it can't be misplaced anyway).
