Ah, at last, some well reasoned common sense, calmly, coherently and concisely argued! It'll never catch on!

Oldgirl - Equality in Law and equality in ethics of place, yes.
Do you fear that reburial will take precedent over musologists et al? Such fear is unfounded. The argument does indeed lean equally both ways, but up to now, the ancestors haven?t had a say.
Our ancestral remains belong in the earth and not on display (or on any butchers block) and are not present simply to remind you that real people live and die. It may be argued that current environmental disaster has its roots in sedentary living - but that's another discussion for another day I guess, and we don?t really need to face the body naked to understand ourselves. Reburial does not seek to re-invent a past (unlike much processual interpretation) rather, spirituality express a present. O the odd

you don't suppose that that's because they're, like, dead and gone? and they ain't coming back. and you ARE re-inventing the past.
your self-appointed whiny victimhood is starting to be not funny any more.
and you're starting to add banal footnotes that point to a persecution complex.
but i think it was Hunter S Thompson, in 'Hells Angels', who quoted the fact that, merely because a group is persecuted, it doesn't necessarily imbue them with special virtues.
you can't win here, Oddie, call it a day and walk away.

My ancestors live in the world around me, in the hedgerow, in the blackbird hunting worms in the morning, in the wind that blows through the trees. they don't talk to me about the bones I regularly disturb in the course of my work.
Tell me Oddie that somehow "your" ancestors are somehow "better" than "my" ancestors, or better than anybody elses who has looked at this thread. Tell me and explain why, your POV/"your" ancestors POV is more valid than mine.
It'll never happen

To state the obvious, how does one know that these remains are those of one's ancestors? Predecessors living on this fair if damp island, certainly, and by the very nature of things any one prehistoric individual may well be AN ancestor of a very large number of present-day Britons.
In short, the deceased in question may not be an ancestor of yours, Oddity, and is just as likely to be an ancestor of mine. I hereby give full permission for my deceased relative's remains to be examined for study and the enhancement of human knowledge and understanding.

You will be pleased to know that druid oddie has now being barred.. use of language, offensive comments (deleted) and an inability to discuss, which involves listening to the oher side in order to be informed, rather than having a point of view, and sticking to it... while suggesting this is a debate.
and so farewell to the longest thread ... sorely unmissed! :face-huh:
Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position.
