This is a one and final public warning to Unit of One. ( you have had private ones )
As a curator I am shocked at your attitude. as a contractor I am shocked at your attitude and I feel for the rest of those on BAJR Forum that must deal with these odd posts which seem to advocate everything that is NOT part of professional archaeology. You may have your views.. and that is why I have let you continue even if I strongly disagree - after all.. everyones views are valid..
You are however advocating
"I see dbas as confidential assessments of what the likely costs are based on what the curators have done (or not)" I have jsut asked for one today as I need that info to make a suitable and informed decision.. You seem to be advocating not letting me know.. or keeping your cards close... so close as to ensure that I would not let you (under those circumstances) away with it ... you would cost your client plenty in my (and others) counties.
Finally and most worrying...
"...I mostly tell my clients not to mention archaeology and see if the curators impose conditions"
You are seriously out of order there... if anyone is working for the client.. ensuring that you line your pocket over protecting or recording archaeology... I appreciate how difficult some have found to keep within the AUP ... well here is the bottom line.
Explain yourself to me.. or consider yourself removed. I have already removed your listing from BAJR contractors... on the basis that your ethos is not one that BAJR can support in any form...when actually proclaimed publicly... I have a mind to ensure that all curators in your area are aware of your comments/practice - after all I would be failing as a member of ALGAO and the IFA if I did not ensure that archaeology is curated by all... and your statement that you would conceal archaeology from a curator on behalf of a developer makes me not only angry but very very sad.
"No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.."
