Chestnuts are edible. Horse chestnuts (conkers) are not. To roast chestnuts cut a cross through the outer shell on the flat side. Spread a single layer on a baking tray and cook 20-30mins in the centre of an oven on Gas6/200C/400F. When done shells open up and the nut feels soft, remove shells. Can also be done over an open fire using a long-handled perforated frying pan with large perforations.
