Just caught on the news that some dedicated sorts were injured when a tornado hit their site hut in Lincolnshire.
Early reports, but I hope that they all recover quickly. Sounds like an experience and a half!

Bet that wasn't in the risk assessment! Seriously hope they're all right, maybe we'll get a full report in due course?

The tornado touched down near Thurlby
Five students have been injured after a tornado lifted a portable building into the air in south Lincolnshire.
Archaeologists and archaeology students were working inside a sand and gravel pit at Baston, near the Cambridgeshire border, on Thursday, when it hit.
Four people were taken to Peterborough Hospital in Cambridgeshire with minor injuries, after the building was lifted up by high winds and dragged 70 feet.
Thunderstorms also left 6,000 homes without power across Lincolnshire.
Eyewitness Marguerite Cullen, who lives in Thurlby, said: "I was sitting in the house watching a thunderstorm when it developed a funnel."
"This time last year there was also a severe tornado in the area," she said.
"This one was quite enormous and a lot closer than last year's - I could see the cloud rotating in the tunnel."
She said even though the tornado was "snakey and small" it was clearly touching the ground.

seriously though, I am glad everyone is not too badly hurt... bet that was not in the Risk Assesment Document.

hi, quick message... am one of archaeologists involved... was very scary but dont see how could have been prevented!! but yeah we've been advised to consider for the future how to avoid it
We are all doing ok thanks and recovering well!! who says commercial archaeology isn't exciting!!

I believe the unit in question was Northants. Is Tam still there? Was he involved? (worked for him at Ely).
Has anybody got any other stories of bizarre natural occurrences on site? I was in an earthquake while working in Greece once. All the locals just carried on with their daily business as if nothing had happened.

The fields around the village where I dig in Thailand caught fire once. There were walls of flames marching towards the houses on all sides. We had to get the site buckets and make long chains from the village square. Very exciting.
