Why does the UK not put a deposit on the price of cans and bottles which can be reclaimed when handed in?
I, like most Canadian kids spent many an hour trawling road verges looking for returnables to make some money. Result: clean road verges. Not to mention the modest income that homeless people could garner in collecting bottles in cities. (There's a wonderful documentary about this subculture in Calgary, called "In the Gutter and Other Good Places")
