'Dating even a single of these large (often) and LONG-LIVED monuments is a job and a half.
And I agree with you Land-esc, what is and what isn't any 'type' of monument isn't as easy as it seems and can create its own systematic errors to the data before you even start.
But as always, more dating has to be better......as long as they choose their techniques and samples carefully........and then publish all the important info.'
But then I realised that its just a survey of what the public think and see about what they think is a hill fort.
The only point I can see is to waste some money.
Better to have an army of postgrads looking through google earth and/or LIDAR data for them!
You'd get more accurate data.
