Our kids will be paying for our pensions irrespective of whether deficit cuts are made now or not, that's the way the system works. In the same way, people working today are paying for the pensions of those currently retired, just as those people paid for the pensions of those who were retired when they were working. State pensions are paid out of current tax revenues, individual contributions aren't stacked up in a big vault marked 'Marcus's pension - do not open till he retires'. That's why the baby boomer generation represents such a challenge for the pension system - there will be a large number of people all retiring around the same time, with fewer people working and paying tax to fund their pensions. Just as well they benefited from free universities, jobs for life and cheap property, then!
