The question as to who should take the reins for archaeology (IFA or some-one/no-one else) reminds me of something I read many years ago; when King Richard the Lionheart asked a Lord of Outremer "who do you support? King Guy or King Conrad?" the reply was "is there a King of Jerusalem or a Kingdom?"
