Yup... no doubt about it, its a lot cheaper to be an 'affiliate'...
![]() Do you still get the glossy magazine Troll?

Whilst I agree that it would be ideal to be allowed a vote, the IFA validation system in my opinion is a pantomime and as such, I intend to apply for affiliate level membership. An institue that removes voting rights from certain levels of membership really does need to grow up.The idea is simple- everyone joins at affiliate level and signs up to agree to all standards/guidelines/ethics. We all stand back and watch...IFA actually does something..... or we leave-loudly.What do we have to lose? Tiz time the IFA put its money where it`s mouth is...

Voting rights are not removed or denied to certain levels of membership. All Corporate grades have a vote. That is just a posh way of saying Full members. An Affiliate member is just that, as it says on the metaphorical tin, an affiliate. This is a posh way of saying associate member. Similar rules apply to all sorts of clubs and bodies.
If you re not happy with the validation system, which you apparently persist in misunderstanding, you could join at a Corporate grade and apply to join the validation committee yourself, as they are asking for such applications due to the increased numbers of membership applications. We owe the dead nothing but the truth.

A lot cheaper? £2.75 (affiliate) per month versus £4.84 (practitioner)? Wouldn't you rather be heard loudly while you were a member so that the institute at large would know why you were there?
However, if encouraging members at affiliate will get people joining so be it. However, why not do a student membership drive (no joining fee and £15 per year). Of the Clan Sutton

Errr... 'cos student memberships are for students or recent graduates and have to be upgraded a year after you graduate. I'm guessing here but I don't think Troll qualifies.

Quite right, my phrasing was off. I was promoting actual students to join (I'm assuming that a fair few will read these discussions) to increase numbers of enthusiastic hearts and minds
![]() Graduated the same year as Troll, so he clearly has a few more months to be a student member [:o)] Of the Clan Sutton

An affiliate is not a full member and has no vote. I believe (although I stand to be corrected) that this grade is intended for people with an interest in archaeology and a wish to support the IFA, but who are not actually professional archaeologists. That clearly does not apply to you. You and I disagree strongly about a lot of things, but I think that any institution can only benefit from strong internal debate, and I would like to see your views represented in those debates. 1man1desk to let, fully furnished
