There were some great moments, but perhaps too much special effects. Oh, and suddenly being in a place that was miles away from where the last scene ended. Cold War paranoia subplot was quite good, though. Though I couldn't help thinking it would have been better if Ray Winstone had been killed off at the start, and Sean Connery brought back in.

there was a few people I would have killed off at the start... (but then, that would have left only a couple of people in the film) Indy1 = action, intrigue, plot, rollercoaster ride, subplots, meaning and ending... classic ending even... this one was a bit like buying a curly wurly (dreaming and remembering it from when you were a kid) and then finding it smaller and slightly dissapointing - all wrapper and no choclate)

Haven't seen the film yet, don't really care about the reviews as I'm sure it will be enjoyable enough.

Indy has clearly changed his tune in the intervening years since previously he was stating that '70% of all archaeology is done in the library.' In fact, there are several maxims from the earlier films, including the above, that are not only relevent to archaeology but better than might be expected from what is basically a story about a treasure hunter:
'70% of all archaeology is done in the library' - if only the DBA had been done properly in the first place that SM wouldn't have had a pipeline cut through it!
'Archaeology is the search for facts, not truth' - how true, especially given the amount of deposits that are explained as 'ritual'.
'X never ever marks the spot' - perhaps a lesson to be learnt by relying on Geophysics!
These will have all been pointed out before and I'm sure there are more, I look foward to spotting some in the new film. I'm sure I could go on but as it's a bank holiday weekend I can't be bothered.
However, I one day dream of interviewing Tony Robinson and starting off with something like:
'His on-screen characters have entertained viewers for decades, his contribution to the media portrayal of archaeology is unprecidented, and he has undoubtedly inspired several generations into the profession. But enough about Harrison Ford, I'm here to interview Tony Robinson...'

One question... would Prof Jones get into the IFA.. he may have a very good line in cracking the whip (a useful skill for the disciplinary side) however, his publication record is poor - and we certainly don't want anyone in the IFA who would agree with treasure hunting and destruction of sites for entertainment ..
Perhaps he could start off as a PIFA.. and take it from there, after appropriate training in Archaeological Practice.. and a NVQ in both management and Health and safety (for goodness sake, there should be laws against working in spike filled pits)
