Industrial Metal Detecting - troll - 31st December 2005
Industrial archaeology is as important as any other period when it comes to PPG 16. Plenty of it happens across the UK particularly in the midlands and the north. In short-PPG 16 does`nt really discriminate against industrial arch but then, depends who you ask. "Is there a place for detecting in industrial arch?" You would have to ask someone else at the minute.

Industrial Metal Detecting - Hugh - 3rd January 2006
Speaking as someone who has run an SMR, one thing that metal detectorists could help with is finding post medieval mills (water or wind) which have no accurate grid reference. The same goes for any small rural industrial sites, though there would be no real gain for the MD other than knowing they found the site as all that there is likely to be is a scatter of nails in the ploughsoil.
