UK Best/Worst archaeologist award - muddyandcold - 17th February 2006
Some criteria for this award could be as follows:-
1) Best/Worst Unit (2 seperate awards)
2) Best/Worst Unit director (2 awards)
3) Best/Worst project manager (2 awards)
4) Best/worst supervisor (x2)
5) Best/worst archaeologist (x2)
6) Lifetime achivement to archaeology
7) Individual who has caused the most damage to archaeology
:face-thinks: Best/worst archaeology course
9) best/worst lecturer
10) best/worst 'training' excavation
These are only suggestions, please feel free to add/delete etc...

I remember a lady called Hilary Graham who hailed from the Lincoln area who was an absolute superb digger and recorder. Managed to turn areas of saturated brickearth that looked like a World War One battlefield in to something you could play billiards on.[:0]
Haven't heard anything about her since the mid eigties mind so no idea if she's still digging.

Just a suggestion, but to avoid allegations of slander/libel, maybe just concentrating on the best in each of the categories would be a good idea.

Gretings all and welcome to the forum Ladyjen! I think my isue here is that whilst the frames of reference offered by Muddy provide categories-I don`t think that we have identified just what it is that makes either the "best" or "worst" archaeologist. Just what makes a good field archaeologist for example? Just what is it that makes a bad one?

Blimey! I haven't seen or heard anything about her (or Mike G) since I last saw them at EH's excavation at Brompton on Swale. She was indeeed remarkable and I once saw her destroy a rather patronising bloke who tried to help her by emptying her barrow. He could barely lift the thing and had to stop about half way up the heap. She grabbed it back and trundled to the top and dumped it as if it was empty, leaving her puffing, red-faced helper to nurse his bruised ego.
