Petition II - Stronger Curating ! - hurting-back - 5th September 2007

I have to admit that I am struggling to see the bit where curators are all accused of 'being a bunch of muppets', or the bit that asks for a 'standardised curatorial response', or that disagrees with historic building's observations. Are we even reading the same petition?

I don't think that fast tracking will mean it all comes tumbling down, but I don't think it is benign either and think that more detail and assurances are needed. In fact you may note that there is a mention of pressures from planners and developers so I would think you all may appreciate the fact that someone has bothered to petition about something that, according to historic building's account, is quite relevant.

You can be a strong curator and still be let down by the councils and local bodies you are serving - all this is asking for is that the government considers this when looking at planning control. It may be that nothing comes of it, but we archaeologists don't have a very strong voice when compared to developers and it makes sense to try every method possible to get the message across!! I thought the last petition was misinformed and largely pointless, but signed it nonetheless to help demonstrate the strength of feeling on the subject.

But then again, if the phrasing isn't quite to our taste why look at the idea?

"don't panic!"
