yes I am confusing them. I may as well chuck in heritage asset. and we can get a heritage asset receptor or heritage receptor asset.

Heitage Receptor - sufficient cakeage - 28th May 2014

'Heritage Receptor'- a term invented by consultants as a vehicle to demonstrate negligible impact upon any archaeological remains.

Divide and rule by obfuscation.

Except I don't think it was invented by consultants...more likely by a local government officer...

Heitage Receptor - Marc Berger - 28th May 2014

why do you think that Kev? my thinking is that the consultants would have sucked it out of the local gov bod but that the local bod couldn't have thought it viable if it wasn't something that an eh whorayhenry/eta was using at cocktails at the Libyan Embassy. The earliest google that I have is a bunch of consultants ..admittedly they all claim, as per normal, to have previous local gov. pension entitlements. Still my intuition is that it is an eh whorayhenry/eta.

sufficient cakeage keep up the good work

As a long-time inmate at EH, I have to say that the first time I saw this horrid phrase was on this very thread. If it was made up by one of my esteemed colleagues, they're keeping very quiet about it. 'Heritage Asset' was us, though. Fair cop.

Heitage Receptor - Marc Berger - 29th May 2014

eh is at it too

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/publications/fishing-and-historic-environment/EH6204_Report_FINAL.pdf

its going to revive a monster from the deep
Quote:Sediment disturbance when the gear is dropped, towed and retrieved may cause chemical instability, including oxygenation in the heritage receptor

this pretty much gets everything in that you need to know about the brand with a bit of heritage asset as well
Quote:Habitat character is therefore important to the source of interaction (commercial fishing), to the receptor of interactions (the surviving form and condition of heritage assets) and to the pathways between them. Hence, there is scope to use habitat character as a proxy for addressing SPR relationships and to use habitatbased methods for assessing interactions.

Heitage Receptor - Weegie - 30th May 2014

Oh dearie me. The receptor of interactions? Jeezo.

Heitage Receptor - ken_whittaker - 30th May 2014

The term 'receptor' has been applied as a generic term attached to various nouns that identify aspects of the environment considered in an EIA. Its 1st use is probably lost, but is likely to be traced to shortly after the original EIA Directive (85/337/EEC) and hails from a vocabulary whose sphere is wider than the world of archaeology.

Whilst 'consultants' owe a considerable debt to European environment legislation, surely this knowledge can sponsor a far richer invective directed at sinister European technocrats. Or would that appear a bit too UKIP for comfort ? Safer then to stick with populist sneering at any target/ignorance percieved to lack the honest nobility of those who reside in the site hut......the usual suspects such as the 'establishment', the 'bureaucrat' or indeed the 'consultant'. It offers a topic of discussion whilst completing the 'context' sheet and the Harris 'matrix' I suppose.

Heitage Receptor - Marc Berger - 30th May 2014

Nothings wider than the sphere of archaeology. I agree that its come out of eia terminology but in as much as it is a Latin derived word apparently: to receive, it seems to have been used in the 18th century in the sense of a treasurer and in some cases as a receiver of stolen goods. Early 20th it seems to have been taken on board by the medics presumably directly from their Latin and they held it for most of that century and its still going strong with them. So far on the European technocrats angle at the moment the Americans seem to have the edge with combining receptor heritage and environment: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=7-xiMnEjyAoC&pg=PA111&dq=heritage+receptor&hl=en&sa=X&ei=S52IU86EOujy7AakzoDgBQ&ved=0CDQQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=heritage%20receptor&f=false and they are amongst the earliest proponents of eia-sometime around the Vietnam war.

My dream is that no archaeologist sitting in a site hut will ever use the word receptor without the same contempt as applied to the word bioturbation.
