Hi all,

Just wanted to say hi to you all really! Am beginning an archaeology degree in October, I'm well aware that I could be crazy doing so but I'm 32 and will regret it if I don't!!

Have lurked around reading lots of threads so I thought I best introduce myself!

Look forward to chatting with you all

Ros Smile

A fellow mature student, hola! I didn't start an academic career until my late 20's. Carry on and best of luck in your studies! As you probably fathomed, if your after future commercial work, gain as much field experience as possible!

Introduction - Wax - 26th June 2011

Go for it . I did not take an archaeology degree until my very late thirties so did not get my first archaeology job until I was in my forties and despite everything I am still working in archaeology. I know that if I had not done it I would have always wondered what if. there are many advantages being older when you do your degree you know what you want and why you want it ...... Best of luck you never know in three years time there may be jobs for the determinedBig Grin

Welcome Ros ..... Congratulations. Its a delight to hear that someone is pursuing their ambition these days rather than thinking themself a victim of the system. Good luck with your endeavours. I don't really have any advice to offer a budding archaeology student other than to say dont forget to have fun!!

if you have been lurking around BAJR for a while you would have got some idea of the 'nature of the beast', but I hope you will never be afraid to ask for advice or run a suggestion past the forum . ... . Most of us are friendly, even if sometimes it appears the project offers an outlet for the frustrations of the mentally challenged.....I guess in that sense we take a little pressure off the Samaritans!! Look forward to your 'maiden' contribution.....K

Thanks for your replies! I'm sure I will be here asking lots of questions or generally making a nuisance of myself!!

Although I'll try and make a healthy contribution now and then :p

I'm close (well 5 years to go) to retirement and I've just graduated. It took a long time - over 10 years - but I made it. I was employed as an archaeologist for most of those 10 years but was made redundant in the great cull of 2008. Hasn't stopped me though - I'm involved in my local group and still really into my thing (Finds). Enjoy your degree course and get the most out of it that you can. Stay positive, make contacts and enjoy!

Hello Ray <wavity wavity wave> from another late starter (technically a returnee but so much has changed...:0).

Pleased to make your acquaintance!

Introduction - Kel - 26th June 2011

Wlcome Ray! I've just finished a degree in Archaeology & Prehistory, at the over-ripe age of 47. Even as a midlife crisis it was a bit delayed, but it's the most fun I've ever had. Get stuck in!

P.S. Try not to slip into the use of yoof buzzwords. When I say "Epic Fail!" to my parental units, they look at me a bit strange.
