Sir-with respect, if we are to move on at all, discussion is surely the modus operandi. I have no intention of mentioning either the (removed) individual or the organisation-I simply suggest that;
1. The IFA have been consistantly instrumental in devaluing the work of professional archaeologists since their birth and to suggest that after years of this-one statement that mirrors what everyone else has been saying repeatedly does not in my book balance the scales and
2. The removal of two-yes count them two- entities in all these years of the IFA existance is not an assurance that standards and professionalism are being taken seriously.:face-huh:

Troll,

I take the point. But if we/you want to discuss these things let start a different thread.

And I`m sorry Peter but "there should be no flag waving or applause after disciplinary action" sounds a bit Blakey from "On the Buses" sirBig Grin

Troll,

Thanks for the complement that I sound like Blakey. Have you seen the Grimleys?

If disciplinary action from the IFA is to mean something then the IFA must carry it out with due care, which in my opinion they do, as a last resort. What I think everybody wants is a situation where good archaeology by good archaeologists is rewarded appropriately and that is the norm.

How we get there is something worthy of discussion even if the likes of you and me will never (or very rarely) agree.

So lets end this thread which I strated as a piece of infomation.

Cheers

Peter

“just one PIFA - but one that was running an independent archaeological company, taking MIFA-level responsibilities”

Cant say that I see many faces on the IFA committees that have attempted to run an independent archaeological company- they all seem to work or have worked for the government. I wonder if those at EH claim expenses and/or have to take time off when they go on IFA duties/conferences?

“If disciplinary action from the IFA is to mean something”

it would need to say what it was for

It is disappointing that half of the IFA staff seem to comprise of people with no actual experience of field archaeology (based on the info in the yearbook). I can understand that finance/admin etc posts don't necessarily require archaeological experience but it seems to be a pretty poor show that the professional body is half staffed by people who have never really worked within the profession, although based on the IFA job ads I've seen (admittedly few) they seem to get paid better than most actual archaeologists, which is weird cus its mainly low paid archies that fund the IFA.

Is it “low paid archies that fund the IFA” ?
