Any new kit out there for the fieldies this winter? Waterproofs/handwarmers etc? Did ask this a while ago but...are there any companies out there who would like to donate kit for us to field test in extreme circumstances? Won`t be buying any more of them there sealskins "waterproof" gloves this year either-twenty five squid for gloves that only stay dry if you umm...keep them dry.....Wink What do you think GETATROWEL? Any potential companies out there who would be willing?

I found some great trousers at B&Q recently that have pouches for knee pads and more pockets than you could ever need. (Best of all my old knee pads fit them nicely, so no more losing a kneepad in the clay) They also have a nice clip for keys so you don't lose them in the middle of a field during a cold watching brief. I believe they are for carpenters, and are part of a whole range of similar kit. An ideal alternative to the ubiquitous combats. Not particularly winter kit as such, but there is plenty of room for thermals underneath.[8D]

My Dad has some hard-wearing gloves he bought at a sailing shop that have just the thumb and index finger tips removed. Handy for planners.

I've spent years looking for a glove that is waterproof, hard-wearing, warm and with some flexibility for finger movement. I don't think they exist. I've seen wet (or maybe dry?) suit divers gloves, but they are £35 up, and I don't know how long they'd last. The best thing I've found so far is the fingerless gloves with a fold over mitten bit, but they're not perfect in the wet.
Any glove recommendations gratefully received!I'm so sick of cold fingers!

Interesting Troll. I know a number of people who swear by sealskins gloves. However, they claim that they only stay warm if they're wet. As for hand warmers, you can't ebat a nice cup of tea (or ten).

As i live in Norway I have access to quite a lot of clothes etc that you don't get in England. I will send Mr Hosty a pair of Gloves and he can comment on them.

I use them for detecting... they are diving based neoprene but are flexible.
If you hand get wet..... the warmer they become. Some of the diving gloves with Kevlar are good but also cost money.

I know you get some of the "seal skin" products in England.
The gloves are warm but no good when wet.
The seal skin socks work well though.
By the way I work in tempratures from -15c - -32c

Some of the stuff costs money (a pint here costs over £:face-thinks:but "pay peanuts you get monkeys" Money cant buy warm feet and and hands.

Ill try and post some pictures up later if I get the time.

That would be handy... (gettid!) I have a warm feeling now ! (ah...stop me !)

And as for getting a pair of gloves... a happy xmas to you too... and believe it or not... I will need them... I have one building survey and two land surveys happening... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... best time of year to go outside. Wink

I have a pair of neoprene full finger cycling gloves that are working a treat on a hellish bog site at present. Not waterproof, but your hands sweat in them anyway. Warm though. Nice gripping palm feature and so far tough enough to handle the work. Don't know if they sell here. I got them cheaply in Canada.
