As a warning this is goning to be a rant.....

What is going on with this prospect ifa etc campaigne and how has anything moved on in the past year? As a stuanch socialist with an ingrained belief in the importance of the union i am finding it increasingly difficult to retain even the slightest faith in prospects approach to archaeologists!!

I have been a member for years and want to know what the hell they are playing at sending out questionaires to members about the state of archaeology and the problems they face.

WHY WHEN YOU COULD ASK ANYONE WHO HAS SPENT A FEW WEEKS ON SITE AND THEY CAN TELL YOU!! CRAP PAY, CRAP CONDITIONS, NO JOB SECURITY, NO REAL CAREER PROSPECTS AND THATS FOR A START!!!!Sad

If they havent got past this stage yet what have they been playing at? Its already laid out in their manefesto and read BAJR baiting so why waste more time and paper on this?

When will thing move beyond this endless ream of circular disscussions - we know the problems - we know how to move towards change. Why take two steps forward then one step back? SadSadSadSadSadSadSad

Be prepared for a statement in the next month.... and watch for a move from the Digger FOrum

It is pretty bleedin complicated... I did say at the IFA conference this year... we already know the problem... lets get on with the solution... and boy is it fiddly... not quite a simple as jsut raising pay ... but feel free to rant... you have that right... and I too was/am sick of circular statements... so as I say.... watch out - its happening.

IFA and Propect continue to do naff all like theve always done naff all. Always have always will. Ought to rename themselves as "The Peoples Front of Judea" (Watch life of Brian for that one). But they are a complete waste of time. I`ve been in archaeology for 10 years and they have sigularly failed to do anything of use in those 10 years other than to discuss that nothing has been done for 10 years, turn up at conferences with new literature spelling out what they dont intend to see through over the next 10 years.

BORING!! BORING!!!

It is an will remain so a non active organisation, hopeless out of touch, powerless as you dont even need to be in it to practise other than get the letters after your name.

The only organisation that has effected any significant change within this industry is this site and thats it because of the volume of people who visit employers now know how to target staff for recruitment and due to the discussions on the forum people are aware of what is good or bad pay and employers who now find it difficult to recruit are having to raise wages in order to attract staff. Nothing to do with the IFA just pure and simple economics. And Mr BAJR try not to associate to much with em It feels like Jimi Hendrix havin teas with Edward Heath. Big Grin

Close enough for a country job!

Ha worse than that, I was listening to Billy Bragg the other day, he said he was at some meeting or other somewhere and had to agree with Norman Bloody Tebbit!
That must have hurt!
