Sadly this was supposed to be a surprise.. but the Daily Mail got hold of the story... however, it looks like they are quoting the great and the good relating to this story...

Quote:Professor Tim Darvill, Stonehenge expert at Bournemouth University, said: 'This adds to the richness of the story of Stonehenge.

so did is this an exclusive...or a leak.... we want to know :face-smart:

Anyway... I heard about it from Stonepages as we prepare the podcast news... so I may as well confess I will be reporting on this... and perhaps have my tuppence worth as well. You have not listened to our Podcast news?? where have you been?

sadly they can... must write memo to Hadrian.. the wall is not what it used to be!

Bluehenge... who spoke? - Windbag - 5th October 2009

I heard about this from a presentation given at a conference by Mike P-P last month.

I particularly like the first post:

T"he "henges" are of Forerunner construction. They are multidimensional gateways that were used for interplanetary/interstellar travel--when they were whole."

:p

Quote:A message from the Directors of the Stonehenge Riverside Project 2009.

Bluestonehenge has been kept under wraps because one of the funders is the National Geographic Society. A condition of their grant is that publicity announcements have to go through them. So Mike Parker Pearson and the rest of the Stonehenge Riverside Team (this year's co-directors were Josh Pollard, Julian Thomas and Kate Welham) are pretty stuck about what to do with the breaking story until National Geographic's planned press release. They were hoping that the announcement could wait until after radiocarbon dating, to
see how it actually related to Stonehenge.

The reason the Daily Mail has no quotes from any of the team is that they've got the story by other means; perhaps the journalist was one of the many members of the public given a site tour of the excavation.

Mike hopes to get Nat Geo to allow the team to speak directly about this season's results, now that the story has broken. But it's a weekend so it may have to wait until Monday morning Washington DC time! Please don't be grumpy about Nat Geo - if they hadn't funded the excavation, it would never have happened.

The comments from the Daily Mail readers always give me a good chuckle...

Quote:Stonehenge was used for Human Sacrifice, not for funeral ceremonies! Back in those days, the Cult-Religious Priests of the Christian Religion sacrificed humans, these humans did not agree with the "God" Cults so they were sacrificially executed on the center stone, along with that, women would sacrifice their own children by cutting off their heads or stabbing them in the chest to please the "Gods". It was quite a massacre and awfully horrific as well. When sacrifices were not going on by the Christian Cult Religion, great mystics of that time used the Stonehenge to read and chart the stars. This will be proven in time to come... until then, the erroneous beliefs will continue that this was a place of worship and funeral ceremonies which is untrue. Also, Stonehenge has absolutely nothing to do with extraterrestrial landings! There ARE however places that friendly extraterrestrials do use as landings spots even to this day, yet so many humans are completely ignorant to this fact.

WTF!!

Quote:All temple experiences throughout known history have served roughly the same purpose, so we may well assume that they did the same in pre-history as well. A supplicant is metaphorically taken on a tour of the universe, typically from a reenactment of creation through all time, where they often perambulate the temple area. As they successfully transit each level of the temple (metaphorically, the earth and heavens) on each level, gaining knowledge to help them overcome the world, they are allowed to move on to the next level. Certain societal rules and beliefs are taught and reinforced, and their society is thereby ennobled and preserved. The same pattern exists in very early Hindu/Buddhist stupas, Native American fireside ceremonies, modern Buddhist pagodas, the Mecca experience, even modern Mormon temples, as in the strikingly similar layouts at Stonehenge & Bluehenge. How does one overcome the world, find the path to heaven, and save one's soul? A pressing question for any age.

WHAT!!! :o)

and my fave!

Quote:I think this is another example of someone trying to make a name for themselves, because there is no factual model, let alone evidence of "blue" henge... it would be nice if there was but there isn't....

As a druidism student and an Ex Arch of the Stone, there is the spires, the Stonehenge and wood henge, i have yet to understand let along see, the blue...

and as the professor stated.. "we all known of the blue stone from which Stonehenge is made"....

Bluehenge... who spoke? - Jennie - 7th October 2009

I think the only reply to that is 'Hmmmmmm...'

Bluehenge... who spoke? - gonetopot - 8th October 2009

Hmmmmm indeed, and ho ho :face-huh:

I note all the really weird comments come from mormons and druids in the states. My advice to them - less moonshine, get a passport and come over to look at British Archaeology in the flesh.

On a serious note, this looks like another fantastic addition to our understanding of the Stonehenge landscape, and is a tribute to the persistence and determination of those involved. Does Mike P-P have any idea how long after the Nat. Geo article a serious site report (or even interim) might appear in general circulation. Because I for one would love to read the detail with an open mind.Smile

MPP is giving a talk at the Devizes museum this saturday:
http://wiltshireheritagemuseum.blogspot.com/2009/10/evening-talk-about-stonehenge-by-mike.html

Not sure what the publication strategy of teh Riverside project is going to be, but there is plenty of scope for several publications. I doubt we'll see much official on Bluehenge for a while, as the carbon dates aren't back yet. It would be great to know how this relates to the other monuments in the landscape...
