An old friend is back!

Which is a response to very fair questions put by Host, i.e. is your course accredited and will you be using your own book as a text book.

The book he talks about has been for sale recently on ebay and on his own website as a serious book...

Bless...Love a bit of comic relief! Surely this fellow is hardly worth attacking at this stage. As long as he makes it clear that course is NOT accredited I'd be tempted to put him in the "Mostly Harmless" file and let him dig his own hole (as it were Wink)

Are not the ISSUES completely different? It certainly looked like a thinly-veiled personal attack to me, particularly bearing in mind the past history of criticism said person had to put up with from these quarters.

So "Real Job", are archaeologists to be interrogated about doing any outreach to the wider community which is not "accredited and validated" (and not allowed to choose whichever books they feel appropriate)? Or would they be wisser to get the BAJR seal of approval to do so first?

If you want to "have a go" at Mr Langford, why not do so on a Forum where he can see and answer it? It seems only fair. He's not a member here is he?

With regard the topic title, "at" what "again"?

Perhaps you're right Paul, and if I implied that he was doing anything wrong by teaching a course in archaeology, then I shouldn't have. I tend to agree with Legs, and put his antics down as 'Comic relief'.

'BAJR seal of approval' - well, I certainly haven't signed up to a BAJR party line, and there's plenty of disagreement on these boards as you have seen yourself on the Thornborough issue.

As to 'interrogation', I believe in questioning everything and everyone especially when they are someone who is not shy about putting themselves forward (Mr Langford is no shrinking violet).

Thats especially true when they have been publicly endorsed dodgy employment conditions and written a book apparently riddled with inaccuracy (haven't read it myself, and its now out of print alas!)- seems perfectly fair to me that if such a person startrs teaching archaeology, they should be questioned.

As to whether he is a member of this board or not, its hard to tell with the anonymity of many members. Anyway, its a bit of a red herring: I have had a go at the Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell before now, and I'm fairly sure she's not a member. If she or Mr Langford think that I've been out of line, there's nothing to stop them joining.

At it again... - BAJR Host - 30th May 2006

So lets leave it at that...

as you see Paul, there is no BAJR party line...

I take it that my question was not taken well. ah, well, just interested due to the BAJR Course Finder Section, which lists every course in the UK...

be nice... I am having a lovely time in Spain... so intend to keep it that way.[8D]

Another day another WSI?

At it again... - BAJR Host - 30th May 2006

HAd a quick peek at the Britarch...

seemed that I am misunderstood... All I asked was two innocent questions... Now I have the answers..

I could tell Karl, that at the age of 14 I was giving a paper at a congress in Nice on the Osteological finds of Cave 1565 in the Wye valley... but that would just be playing childish games of who was best.

If the course had been acredited I could have added it to the COurse Finder, but as it is not, I can´t... please someone calm the KJL down Wink

Good-oh, I'm all for that too. Though I wonder if all are as robust to that sort of questioning as you and I, some people - even here - might find it a little unnerving. Are their feelings to be ignored just because a few hard skinned individuals like us would only be too gratefull for some real meaty criticism for once of the views they broadcast? I really could not give two hoots about his alleged endorsement of "dodgy employment conditions" and have myself written texts which I am sure have become "riddled with inaccuracy" as our discipline develops (even if they were not when I wrote them). But I am sure that Mr Langford's attitudes to hard hats and the unions are of little relevance to his course for everyman.

isn't it? Thank goodness that we are not all afraid to use our real names.

Having read the current thread, and those on britarch, it seems that an individual/organisation is being victimised/slandered.

What is wrong with anyone establishing courses? If they are accredited then so much the better... Howvever, everyone has to start somewhare.

I remember, not to long ago a thread on the BAJR fourm which resulted in a certain archaeological firm (not RAO registered) threatening legal action..... BAJR backed down.... despite the fact that legal action would cost 10 of thousands.... Now, with the shoes on the other foot BAJR is making derogriatory comments about an individual/org knowing full well that they cannot afford to sue....

So question to be asked? Is BAJR trying to keep out new comers? Not willing to stand up against est. organisations??

He is after all a member of the IFA, if there is any problem let them decide... BAJR, Britarch, dicsussion groups are not there to convict people........ Go through the proper process please. If you do not, how can anyone have faith in our organisation??

Come on, be FAIR

At it again... - BAJR Host - 31st May 2006

BAJR is most certainly not ... I once again reiterate... New courses are to be hoped for, looked for etc etc..
I asked only if this course was acredited.. and if a book was used as a text book... hardly slander.. would you not say.

As to BAJR backing down... shall we say, you know nothing of the background and discussions ..

I am unsure why you feel the need to come here and try and dispute anything that I do. If I was truely trying to silence dissent etc... then why allow you to post here? or others who disagree with me on issues.

I have made it clear here and on Britarch what was meant.

everyone be very careful here... and that means everyone.
