which is not so bad, though certainly not good, if the material is curated and accessible to other researchers, but terrible if it is subsequently discarded or reburied. I do sometimes think that there can be a reliance on unpaid students and researchers to do the work that should be done by a paid specialist and funded by the developer.

I think one of my implied points. (Not very well articulated I know) was what is the point of expensive finds analysis if the 'site' from which the stuff comes from (e.g. a poorly designed WB) can never be understood very well.Are we reverting to a sort of antiquarianism where the object is elevated to an extra historical force and context is irrelevant. Is this the logical conclusion of PPG16 when combined with post-processualism?

Ill just go and disappear up my own a*** now.

Good in principle, but not all Developers are developers, if you see what I mean. Anyone can submit a planning application.
