Too hot? Thats it.I`m sulking.I think this last week has seen semi-hypothermic diggers all over the country. Where`s me passport.....Big Grin

Sorry guys but membership of the IFA carries no weight out here, given that they permit amateurs like Mr******** loose with a spade on anything other than a vegetable patch.

Just finishing up now as it's getting very warm here and I've gotta get back to play some golf.

Nothing remotely Roman came to light today, although we uncovered four very early arrow-heads. If I took a leaf out of Mr L*******'s book, that would make it the site of a major battle, or possibly even the site of Atlantis.

Review the book guys. Don't take my word for it...

Archaeology Cymru - muddyandcold - 26th February 2006

So what is the american version of Hypocrisy?? What regulations have american archaeologists have in place to protect standards?? I am not protecting the weak but if you are making such allegations please have the decency to place a formal complaint with the IFA so that they can investigate.

Out of interest what is your position in american archaeology?

Archaeology Cymru - madoc - 4th March 2006

Over here we call this kind of response 'closing ranks'.

Best of British luck guys. Nice chatting with you.

Archaeology Cymru - muddyandcold - 6th March 2006

'Closing ranks' Not AT ALL. I all for preventing bad archaeologists from practising with the profession. However, there is a right and wrong way to go about these things!! You are verging upon slander/libel (very brave being 6,000 miles away!)I would have thought that in the country of the brave/free and litigation culture you would have been a mite more careful with your words!!

Incidentally, is there an american version of the IFA/ Or do you 'police yourself??

Mr. Hosty, do madoc recent comments not contravine the AUP [?]

Whilst Mr Hosty is away........
I did make it clear in a previous posting here that the open questioning of an individuals professionalism (or lack thereof) on the forum is not acceptable.Madoc- I have edited your posts to reflect this seeing as you have clearly chosen to ignore the AUP.A last note from me on this issue.....
BAJR is not about "closing ranks" in order to protect the questionable behaviour of others. There are perfectly good organisations elsewhere who fulfill that remit.
Many thanx Muddy/Hobbit for the heads-up.Big Grin

Madoc,

I hope this brush with our AUP policy, which a lot of us have contravened, myself included[:I] doesn't deter from contributing to the messageboard. It is refreshing to hear how problems in archaeology are dealt with elsewhere. As I'm sure you are aware our own arguments tend to go in circles. A different perspective is welcome.Smile

Archaeology Cymru - madoc - 7th March 2006

OK guys I apologize sincerely for causing you any offense. I have even edited two mentions of the individual's name you missed !

However, these comments are not libellous, they are objectively critical and there's a big difference between the two, as David Irving would agree if he had access to the internet right now.

If they were ever to be pursued in a law court here or in the UK, the plaintiff would have to prove he had been libelled.

He has been critized, in the opinion of a legal friend, quite rightly so. Reading back thro the posts, I am certainly not the first to question this individual's professional competence.

Archaeology Cymru - mercenary - 7th March 2006

Completely true in my opinion, and not just on this forum either. Try Britarch for a really comical hole deepening episode.

Archaeology Cymru - troll - 7th March 2006

Agree completely gents.I would love nothing better than a "name and shame" session but unfortunately...this website belongs to someone else and we don`t make the rules. This individual- I`m sorry to say- is not a tiny representative of our problems over here...there`s plenty of his calibre about.Merc- absolutely sir! Madoc-don`t go away sir, we need all the opinions we can get!Big Grin
