Yes Please, pay and conditions of employment?
I can?t say any thing about age and ageism because although it is a very sensitive issue I am approaching my 40s and yet to find job in archaeology, so I don?t want the youngsters out their to get rid of me in 5 years time because I?m Old:face-confused:

I'm 38 and just started out in professional archaeology this summer. Until recently I had only done a few weeks paid work here and there for the unit I did training excavations with. I have now been offered a couple of months work with a unit that I'd not had any previous dealings with. I was told that my age actually went in my favour, rather than against. Changing my career at this stage in my life suggested I am committed and motivated to do the job for the right reasons, rather than it just being a stop-gap after Uni.

I'm not sure how long I want to stay in the commercial excavation side but I want to give it a good go for the next year or so at least and perhaps to get a better idea of what I might like to specialize in later on. At the moment I'm thinking of pursuing the public archaeology thing - training, community archaeology, public presentation of on-going excavations, etc.

Apologies for the silence-life has been chaos.Judy-we aim to hold the conference in or around September of 2006.This will give us ample opportunity to get ti right.As soon as details are ironed out(through mass consultation here), date/venue and sessions to follow.See you there!Reggie-My body is 41 but my heart and mind is still 9.Can`t be blamed for anything then! You`r`e absolutely right-get out there and give it a go.It may hurt for a bit until the graftin muscles are in place but hey-never something for nothing!Big Grin
