New Olympic Bid!!!!! - trowelhead - 6th July 2005
Molas, Oxford, Wessex and Pre-Disdruct will start their own Olympic bids now ... the race is on who can produce the cheapest tender to do all the archaeology... Pre-construct will be the first to drop out, my bets between Molas and Wessex but I dunno if David Beckham will turn out for Molas.. Phil Harding will be there to promote Wessex Olympic bid. I can just hear those digger wages being skimmed off to try an win that tender.

In the last hour I have seen TV coverage of proposed Olympic sites ranging from Poole harbour/Weymouth beach, Stratford, Broxbourne, Windsor, Cardiff and Glasgow. I also understand that a lot of regional centres here in East Anglia e.g Norwich, Cambridge, Ipswich, Peterborough, are hoping to jump on the bandwagon and provide pre-Games training facilities, most of which would appear to involve some form of development of existing facilities. It would appear therefore that there could be a much wider distribution of potential archaeological work than just the 'small' Olympic village of Stratford.
But in the furious race to get these facilities built will archaeology see any benefit. Another Archy chat site is already suggesting that 'Heritage' could end up as one of the areas cut over the next few years to provide monies for 'Sport' development. I have already heard one commentator say that the days of the 'fat guy' are over and Britain is moving towards a a 10 year fitness campaign. So looks like the days of many of us tubbier archaeologists are numbered....[xx(]

I somehow could'nt imagine Mr Harding in a shell suit(white or otherwise) although Ms Lewis might well fit the bill!!
