IA Infant Cremations??? - MikeL - 23rd June 2005
Hi All, am trying (with little success) to track down Iron Age infant (0-3 years) cremations from Britain. Wonder if anyone has come across any. I know specifying age is complex when dealing with cremation but worth a try. Thanks.
Thanks for the encouragement with the website too. Will keep you informed as to whether this eventually takes off or not .

As far as I am aware Jacqueline McKinley is the person to ask about cremations. I think she works for Wessex Archaeology

Agreed-Charlotte Roberts too? Think trying to come up with ageing data on a young infant cremation is a bit optimistic sire! Seeing as you`re down that way now, you could try Bournemouth uni (Margaret Cox/Linda O`Connell) et al. As an outside guess, have a look at the Poundbury (Dorchester,Dorset) cemetery report. Why the stipulation 0-3 years? Good to hear from you sire!

Did a quick search for you on the International Journal of Osteoarchaeology webpage but I think the nearest was Roman in date - and I'm not sure if you folks over the pond classify that as Iron Age strictly speaking

Thanks for that! Have picked 0-3 as that is my inhumation age limit. Just trying to find comparative stuff really. Know I am up against it regarding specific aging and cremation but I do have a few. Will check all suggestions, thanks! Thanks for checking for me Lucy. Unfortunately the Roman period falls outside of my date scope
