a spot of realism and an idea-IFA don`t represent archaeology or archaeologists.Neither do Prospect cos they`re in bed with the IFA.We`ve been bangin on for years about muppets destroying the nation`s heritage and, after streams of forum entries, endless letters to the "grown-ups" and even to the Gods themselves in the house of lords-nothing.Absoluetly-nothing.The IFA do nothing because they`re not forced to.Incompetent units and individuals change nothing because they too, are not forced to.Here`s an idea.A new website. One where horror stories with pictures tell the story. The public own heritage.Let them see some reality archaeology-we`ve all seen more than enough!Change comes about when issues are taken to the people that matter.Explain to them that their pride in their nation and its history is actively being misinterpreted at best-annihalated at worst. Our own industry has selective hearing-lets quadruple the volume.}Smile

exposure website - BAJR Host - 24th December 2004

Just sent an email to Prospect summing up my view of them! ... not pleasant. They have promised to talk since August but so far have only managed to talk to SCAUM, IFA etc.... well done... management ... er but what about the workers?? A letter to the Digger and a pamphlet saying things can only get better... !!

Piss Poor.

I am not into an exposure site (oooer missus) but I am willing to go down the grass line... You see a bad act you report it that day.. that way things can be done (whether HSE or Curator) and that can only help in make things a bit better right now... and then more later on

Happy Christmas

Anyone running such a site had better have excellent legal representation.

exposure website - BAJR Host - 26th December 2004

Have to agree with Invisible there...

or you better run it from a cave in Afghanistan!!

Oh come on-are you seriously expecting everyone to do nothing? Just behave as if all is well and stick our heads in the sand? Thats the well-known role of the IFA and Prospect.Well-aimed critique does have profound impact.O.k, there are legal implications. So what?So we find a sympathetic lawyer! Muppetry will continue for as long as we collectively allow it to. We all know that the problems are both systemic and-endemic.The idea is not to start a witchhunt but, expose bad practise and suggest change. If we all ran from legal confrontation, it would still be legal to rape someone on the basis that they are married to you or, perfectly legal to tear wildlife to bits for sport.Muppets can be powerful-yes, but they are still, just, muppets.

Which is why the Hotline will soon be in effect..... you call BAJR... you give details ... BAJR calles teh relevant HSE or Curator and the situation is dealt with by those that can actually do things within the framework.

tell you what though.... if there is continued (3 times in a short period) abuse... then BAJR itself will pop the name of teh company up online with what they have done... then it is up to the workers to choose who they will work for.

All of which convinces me even more that a proper professional body is essential. Many contrributors here seem to be confused between contractual and professional misdemeanours - they often overlap, but also often do not. Nobody can or will respond to a whinge line or website, and it will almost certainly get someone - the proprietor as well - sued for libel.

Surely an alleged or apparent misdemeanour should first be brought to the attention of the body (unit) concerned by the employee who noticed it, going up the chain of command. When (sorry, if) there is no response, full details including dates etc should be put in writing to the employer (client) in the case of a contractual matter, and also the curator, and the IFA, as applicable.

So I take it that you do not think a hotline is a solution... one that protects the identity of informers in a very close community... most people are afraid (rightly or wrongly) to complain about what is happening for fear of

a) losing present job
b) being seen as a trouble maker by other Units.

BAJR is willing to act as an impartial intermediately between the complainant and the relevant authority.

You are right that a suitable organisation that will deal with these matters is required? but truth is? it ain?t here now? it ain?t gonna be here for a while and so until then?..

As to Prospect Union? hah!!

Sounds good Mr host! My main concern though, is that the worker "at the coalface" is asked to place themselves in one hell of a position.I`m wondering if trust would become an issue in the work-place and people may actively avoid discussing the site-not a healthy thing! On the right track though I feel!

exposure website - BAJR Host - 29th December 2004

Watch out for the hotline in January (though I will confess that it will be 'offline briefly from 24th January - 7th February... as I bugger off on a well earned holiday....... however BAJR and the email hotline will continue.)
