Was that bitterness Troll???

I think that the IFA description of itself as 'THE' Professional Institution is ..... er ..... interesting! BAJR and the Digger are still open to offers I am sure!

I am happy however to see that David Bonner has acted quickly and responsibily to deal with the publication issue. As they are no longer an RAO it is good to see that a Unit will act without IFA sanction.. :face-approve:

So Alfie, are you saying that you do not have the support of your planning officer colleagues, and/or the planning committee? In other words, the officer dealing with a particluar planning application over-rules your recommendation that a condition has not been discharged?

Frankly I would not be in the least surprised. A lot of "minor" conditions get ignored - for example an applicant is invariably required to submit a scheme for landscaping - you know, the green growy bits - on a development, before work commences, and is supposed to implement the aproved scheme in the first growing season.

I think I have yet to see an actual planting layout that resembling the approved scheme, supposing that such a proposal was bothered with.

Again, planning departments are gemnerally under-resourced, and few authorities employ specialist enforcement officer(s). I fear that we (heritage, archaeology, call it what you will) are at the back of long queue and seen as a bit of a nuisance.

Somehow we have to become a lot of a nuisance!

Are we saying that it is the duty of the county archaeologist to lobby in favour of development and against campaigners, even though he has yet to see the results of archaeological evaluations and therefore has not "formed an opinion"?

My understanding is that this person is a senior member of IFA, and has made such public statements before.

Digger Article - BAJR Host - 18th February 2005

I think the action of the county curator is unfortunate.. as it lays them wide open to charges of acting inappropriately as well as acting on behalf of a developer. As a council employee, to be seen to publically use the position of curator to expound what must be personal views should be reported, as should the incident on handing out leaflets in support of the 'development'.

[:0] shocked !

Digger Article - Tom21 - 18th February 2005

The previous event, as well as two more previous incidents have indeed been reported to the council. No action has been taken - in more than 18 months. The acxtivities are still continuing.

Now what?

I checked out the ombudsman, but it seems to revolve around personal injustice - does that mean we have to wait till the application is granted then claim ?50.00 compensation for each local cos the council has acted unjustly?

Digger Article - the invisible man - 18th February 2005

1. Phone the BAJR Hotline! Not quite what was expected, but at least as disturbing.

2. If the curator concerned is a member of IFA he/she should be reported to them. Yeah I know...........

3. Go higher at the council maybe? To a councillor (opposition group)?

4. Formally object to the planning application, citing these events as one reason. Or, inform the action group as they will probably have legal eagles on board. I expect they know already though.

5. Inform CBA??? They dabble in campaigning.

6. Go to the press.

Digger Article - BAJR Host - 18th February 2005

As curator may have stated in the Digger 34 that they would help in the dealing with problems ... give me an email... go to the Hotline page and make it formal. I can then act on Monday!

Action would include informing the IFA about improper activities - they might be the best people to deal with this ... but BAJR would act as the conveyor of the report - make sure I have good evidence.

Agreed with other suggestions as well ... nice one invisible

Digger Article - Tom21 - 18th February 2005

Create a dossier to be handed to attendees of the IFA conference?

Digger Article - Tom21 - 18th February 2005

I'm waiting to receive taped evidence of the arch soc speech - I will be in touch.

Digger Article - troll - 18th February 2005

Yep-sorry(ish). I`m afraid Iv`e worked for said gentleman before and believe me, delayed reports are the least of the world`s worries there. As an aside, the iffy behaviour of both the curator and council (discussed above) would be more than welcomed via a carefully drafted press release. Those in positions of authority seem to forget that they are there for the rest of us lesser mortals.Arrogance tends to shrink when exposed...stop being so polite people!Big Grin
