The rules will only change in respect to greater freedom for the individual to decide how they are viewed (only major change is membership in the Full Federation Group - this is not the same as Federation Forum signup )... where people will have to be real... and verified. However, even there, profile visibility is still up to the individual, it is just to my self that the details are visible.

Hi , i had to change my profile and re- register, as a company i worked for commented to me about my posts , some where not great about them i felt total exposed, i want things to change but i still want a job and some company can be that vindictive

you'll like the new system then

I agree with 1man1desk and Curator Kid. I prefer to be able to comment on here without people automatically knowing who I am.

I would also say that BAJR host, Oz and quite a few others know who I am. I can also say that I don't post anything on here that I don't believe and am prepared to say in public. I prefer to continue to be 'Oldgirl', but if we absolutely had to use our own names I would probably change. I'd prefer not to though.

I voted for 3, on the grounds that the moderators would only have to check who we are once. But I appreciate that this is extra time!

Anonymity is pretty important to me too. I've been observing the posts on this website for some years but only recently joined having clarified I would be able to maintain such. I am aware of posts on the site made by colleagues who have given themselves away by being too specific - a self-imposed problem but it has got around our office and made life unnecessarily uncomfortable. The posts in question weren't even controversial.

In reality there have only been two people who have ever caused trouble and also been 'annons' with fake names... so perhaps it is not as important, as I now know who they both are.... although one person has several names on here. Anyway.. I will let people know in due course who this phantom is.

I used to be anonymous, but then I decided not to be. It does mean that I self-moderate, which also means that I am less likely to spend hours on BAJR ranting at great length and more time working! Occasionally I wind up Unitof1 by simply existing in this way, but I can live with that.

I do value posts by 1man on the consultants' perspective, and from curatorial and EH colleagues on other matters. If such people only feel that they can comment anonymously (for the very good reasons outlined by 1man) then I am happy that they should remain anonymous.

Anonymity or disclosure - trowelfodder - 11th August 2009

I also started off being anonomous but I was "outted" at work a few years ago and decided that I would add my real name to my profile as I knew it was being monitered anyway. Several companies do follow what is being said especially if it is obviously about them - even if no names are used.

I have changed jobs several times since then and I do admit to having a second alias which is anonomous and I am very aware that on the rare occassions I use this alias that I do not post anything that can be pinned down to one specific person and i feel this anonimoty is vital when bringing sensitive issues into the forum that other archaeologists need to be aware of.

Generally tho when posting opinion i dont care who knows its from me

I'm Spartacus, but here I use my NAM call-sign (diggingthedirt) so no one confuses me with the other Spartacuses.
