Due to severe tiredness I read that as 'get them bikini jobs coming in'.... my blood pressure has now returned to normal....

On Dr Wardle's last post - I agree that archaeologists need to be aware that they are not automatically skilled in other 'heritage' posts. Other 'heritage professionals' also need to be aware that they do not know much about archaeology either (in many cases) as well. As curator kid said, this lumping together is being pushed forward by bodies such as EH. I'm not sure I agree with it.

Having said that, I'm working in a 'related field' at the moment, utilising the skills that I've developed in archaeology but having to develop the knowledge to go with them. Skills are quite often very transferrable, knowledge isn't so much.

I am saying nothing...

Lumping together is a worrying trend, I agree... it may fall under a larger 'Historic Environment' umbrella... BUT archaeology is not the same as a Conservation Officer. HOWEVER.. as you say, there are transferrable skills, which will be of use. Creating a more rounded understanding and approach to a particular discipline.

Be handy to get someone who actually understands buildings archaeology into a conservation officer post - from experience, a lot of Conservation officers don't have a clue aout the archaeology and don't actually see it as part of their remit - so they can OK LBC applications that will hve a huge imct onthe archaeology of a building without any attempt at recording or analysis - I have had more than one arument with Conservation Officers about this and in one case been undermined by a oservation Officer who, after I had outlined the details of level 3 recording to the owner of a building, chipped in with "Well a few photos will be OK!!"
