You can always tell a Brummie... but you can't tell him much

Not bitter at all then....

"One of the labourers at the site said: ?The company had got rid of a lot of people who knew what they were doing and this goes to prove that the replacements can?t tell the difference between a skull and a tortoise."

It is funny though and goes someway toward making up for the Bronze Age crime scene debacle! [xx(]

Not at all bitter, trowelmonkey - I have no reason to be, though I know a few who have... :face-stir:

Basically, it made me laugh. Quite a lot.

I didn't necessarily mean you, I meant the random labourer (or was that a digger? in which case the mud was cleverly disguising the professional expertise).

That really put a smile on my face this afternoon.... Smile

Ha Ha (Nelson Muntz style) - Pedant - 17th May 2009

Yeah, it was a bit convenient, wasn't it? Papers often can't tell the difference... My guess is that some of the site team were gossipping to the builders, and that's where it's come from.

Cancels it out, I would have thought.

Personally, I have absolutely no idea what a broken tortoise shell looks like, and I think it falls into the 'last thing you'd think of' category when trying to interpret something on site.

Ha Ha (Nelson Muntz style) - trowelmonkey - 17th May 2009

Not quite. The tortoise shell sent its discoverers into panic mode and it seems like they left it alone to be dealt with by the relevant competent authority. They did the right thing.

The BACS was mucked about with in the dark by someone who wasn't following their own crime scene procedures, so it was doubly inept.

It could have been the one wot done for Aeschylus

There was a similar story a few years ago when some archaeologists found what they thought was a Viking period flagstone floor, that turned out to be a buried patio in someone's garden. My how we all laughed!!!
