There are at least 650 unemployed archaeologist in the UK at the moment. If you were king for a day and could put them all to work to excavate/fieldwalk any one thing what would it be? Please asume money/time/free will of archaeolgists is not in question.

The magic 650 figure.....also equals the number of MPs in this country.

So I would send one archaeologist to permanently pester each MP, every available moment of their working day until they individually (collectively) agreed to pass a sensible heritage bill that both protected the archaeological resource and enabled archaeologists to pursue a worthwhile career.

...of course when the number of unemployed archaeologists reaches 666 and all about you are coughing and sneezing... then start reading Revelations....closely!. Very closely!!

Thats very good Kevin. I was thinking maybe putting them to work field walking the entire county, but your idea is much better.

Massive paradrops of unemployed archaeologists into the untamed rainforest between Mexico and Guatemala and Belize in search of undiscovered Maya cities. Equipped only with GPSs, machetes, iodine tablets and ryvita.

Alternatly poke MPs with pointy trowels until we get something sensible from the government and fieldwalk the entire country starting from the bottom left.

I'd split the 650 into uber teams; one to investigate the submerged Mesolithic and Palaeolithic landscape of Doggerland in the manner of the film 'The Life Aquatic', and one to fieldwalk/testpit areas of the country regarded as blank or with very little data.

Quote....'equipped only with GPSs, machetes, iodine tablets and Ryvita'..........don't forget the all important Swine Flu vaccines.....

Carefully pick up all our major monuments and move them to one enormous theme park, which would have a mono-rail so we wouldn't have to woryy about those pesky members of the public TOUCHING anything!

We get 650 of those old style diving suits with lead boots and a big metal helmet. Then we field walk the seabed! It would be awesome (and maybe profitable as we have no pesky landowners to give our treasure too - would also brighten up the days of the PAS)
