Federation - for the benefit of Britarchers - mattockman - 18th April 2009

"There was also some very interesting complaints about the Society of Antiquaries not being transparent. "
Although you make some interesting points can I just clarify that I wasn't complaining about either of the society of antiquries, merely pointing out that Mark Horton was also a member of an organisation which had a password protected area to their website so when he states
"Entry to this little club is via password protection (so one
cannot even read what members are writing, unlike the forum bits of
BAJR). One wonders if such an initiative is in any well helpful!" It seemed a bit strange.
Just to state once again I wasn't critising the Society of Antiquaries

Accepted, I saw it as just that... where to claim the federation concept is secretive because it has an area for people who wish to be members or at least discuss the issues to the whole concept... was just daft, compared to every other group... including the FSA (as an example)

I have been passed this by another Federatation Member.
http://paul-barford.blogspot.com/2009/04/artefact-collector-friendly.html

Where yet again, it is being misunderstood, misquoted and maliciously turned into something it was not.
There are claims that I run it, and that it in fact somesort of front for metal detecting and is all about pro collecting (now that really took me by surprise.. I see nothing about the federation doing that?)

If you ... wish to reply to this, then feel free, I am ignoring it as just another pathetic personal attack, however, for those that wish to see the Federation work, you may consider this unnacceptable.

Up to you

Hi Dave, I've just read Barford's blog, and what a load of uninformed vitriolic bile it is. One thing which may help to counter the accusations of lack of democracy and being overly secretive is if the Fed discussion forum was made fully public, after all there isn't anything in there which could not have been said on the public boards.

Federation - for the benefit of Britarchers - BAJR Host - 18th April 2009

Fair enough... was thinking that myself...

So as a request to BAJR Forum, which is kindly hosting discussions... the whole thing is opened up.
We should ask the full proposed membership first though.

Could you do a mass email shot to all the Fed board members asking if they have any objections to opening the board?

I have no problem with BAJRFed forum going public. It may go some way to informing peoples oppinions about what it is attempting to achieve rather then all this, "I heard on Britarch..." nonsense.

Federation - for the benefit of Britarchers - drpeterwardle - 19th April 2009

I object to BAJRfed being an open discussion. Too much time will be wasted.

I also object to a private forum being made open without warning. We should at least be given time to check there is nothing on there on there we do not wish to others to see.

Please change it back immediately. Lets discuss it and come to a collective decision. Why give in to a slight bit of pressure.
