Perhaps it would help to answer some questions raised on Britarch

The "Federation" is not a way for me personally to secure a wage for the future.
The Concept of the "Federation" is still being formalised
The need for an interim council is sensible before proper elected posts can be carried out - this is merely to take a concept and turn it into reality.
The concept I am personally trying to conquer and dominate British Archaeology is laughable.
BAJR (as myself) has made mistakes in the past, and apologised for them when needed
The alleged campaigns against groups such as Archpeople are based on no evidence.
BAJR has stood up for rights, and most recently helped scores of people reclaim money owed by a now defunct tool company, has highlighted illegal practice in CRB checking, called to account innacuracies in the Nighthawking Report, Campaigned for the Peat Moor Centre, removed a company that placed advert for 60 quid a day archaeologists that did not mention this was a self employed rate. , and fought alongside the IfA on the accomodation and tax debacle.etc. Some people could (if they wish) see this as none of my business, and if (if) the concensus of archaeologists is to create the Federation, then I will no longer have to do that as an individual, the Federation, by its nature will not be my personal organisation - it will be out of my control, and act according to its membership (a membership that is still to be formalised, though the numbers of those who wish to be a part are growing). It cannot be seen to be a challange to the IfA, rather as an organisation that was brought into existance by its potential membership.

Diarmad has asked if he can join... he does not have to ask, he can join, and stay within the AUP - his new company did not start off well, and managed to annoy alot of people, myself included.

But why don't you respond on britarch??? Excellant reply, seems to satisfy all answers?? So why does not mr hosty publish it on britarch? Mark Horton asks the same question? Not to respond does make one seem as if one has something to hide...

Good question, and tricky one to answer. I left britarch after some previous comments that got personal, I felt it better to leave rather than bang my head repeatedly (I feel like your avatar!) The initial 'worthwhile debate' descended quickly into allegations and innuendo, which is what I objected to, the descision to remove entire threads was made by JISCMail - though Britarch was unhappy about it, the AUP is clear.

I am drafting a statement for Britarch, though have no intention to join britarch to argue the toss, if they are interested in debate, they can come here. You know yourself I have nothing to hide, and indeed nothing to gain... (far from it) perhaps I could ask someone to publish the above on britarch.

One must remember that the Federation is not me, it is all those that want it to be, so I would not be happy to 'represent' an organisation that has yet to formally exist, as it would be personal views, rather than that of the membership.... which would be unfair, and indeed look as if it was 'my' organisation rather than one consisting of hundreds of potential members.

Do you think I should have the above published on britarch? Do you think it would satisfy the questions.. if so, then it may indeed by good to place it there.

Can I remind people how this all started..
http://www.bajr.org/BAJRForum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1970

back in December .. when the concept was first mooted and discussed.

perhaps, Britarchers would be wise to read this first to see where it came from and how it began to evolve

Talking with my wife, she agrees with you muddy, that I will have to speak up, though I will stress that I can't speak for those that wish to be part of the Federation, and it is still a work in progress, indedd it is taking longer than I thought.. becasue there are so many issues to deal with. What is celar, and should be made clear is that it what it is NOT, to assure people, who obvuiously fear it is an opposition movement. It is NOT a Union, it is NOT a professional standards organisation, it is NOT an alternative IfA.

It will be (I hope) a place where a certain sector of archaeologists, can find support, can communicate, can have a voice as an entity, rather than be an individual. A federation need not be seen as a competitor, rather as a group that is obviously wanted, after all, I did not even start it, only went forward with the wishes and desires of hundreds of others, and the final form will be the collective ideas of those who contribute. here goes!

Sigh... am I alone in wondering if British archaeology will ever get its act together? Some of the comments (or rather views) over at Britarch makes me think not.

Sometimes, I just wonder why we bother

So can I just be clear on the chronology of this David....you first mentioned the word 'Conferderation' at about 7.30pm on 1st December and I mentioned the words 'Pressure Group' at about 9.15 pm the same day.

In that case I should be tarred with at least half of the poopy stick they are laying on you....and can I say I am very happy to accept the honour!!

When did it first manifest as a secret underground anarchist cell? Wink

I have just been over to Britarch to look at some of the mails on this subject and (having retrieved most of them from my rubbish bin where all mails from certain posters to Britarch are automatically consigned) I wonder if John Armour hasn't done us all a big favour by bringing this subject to the attention of many folk who would in their normal glasshouses never come across a 'dirty digger'.

I am certain that this bout of publicity could only come from a criminal mastermind intent on world (archaeological) domination and therefore have come to the following conclusion.

John Armour is in fact really David Connolly.
