... and another thing.

Isn't the BAJR forum moderated by three people? I'm sure that if anyone breached the AUP here (even... God forbid... David himself said something wrong), then the others would act accordingly and quickly (and actually provide a reason why they removed a post or thread).

David has been slapped as well Smile even had to pay compensation... but yes... moderation is essential to ensure a forum like this works as well as it does.

Mind you on one occassion I was accussed of being Davids alter ego and not actually existing!

The thread on Britarch does in fact continue....

Sorry [:I]
Suggesting cake may not be appropriate given the recent issues (which i have only caught the back end of)

I'm not the brightest of bunnies, and i don't understand all the political issues. But on the very surface of things it upsets me that people might not be able to see past personal issues to something that could potentially be of great benefit to our field. (And by 'people' I want to make it very clear am not referring to anyone specific; i haven't caught enought of what has been happening!)

Sometimes we have to take a deep breath and go for it, even if we may have reservations. We've all been there. Sometimes we're right in our reservations, sometimes we're wrong.

We're all in the same boat, and noone else is going to look out for us so we have to watch out for eachother.

Peace man! :face-approve:

I feel it was a shame that the britarch attitude was one that did not recognise personal abuse as being unacceptable.

I don't mind it from you lot though Smile

Fishface!Big Grin

Provided you're not not too offended, could you clear up a little point for me? I assume that someone in employment can apply to join? The eligible list includes freelancers, specialists and short tern contract workers and also those 'active in... archaeology',which I take to mean bog standard employed bods. What does a one year fixed term contract count as?

Federation - for the benefit of Britarchers - BAJR Host - 16th April 2009

Fishface.... your fired!!!!!

seriously the eligible list is still a bit fluid... adn I feel that short contract can extend to fixed term contracts where people are taken on for a year or 18 months for a job, with no expectation of continuing afterwards.

It is going to be hard to be 100% inclusive, but should try to include as many as possible that wish to be involved... I see more clearly, that the move is towards an umbrella group, that has as many sub groups as needed... without becoming too loose at the edges... the core must still be the small business and individual ... who can find themselves unrepresented anywere else.

Cheers David. I've popped my application in for you to accept or reject as you see fit... although rejection could mean years of counselling.....

Your Hired... I hope.

What do people think of the proposed BAJR Federation (chair DC)? Is this a good thing? or an attempt to dominate and control british archaeology?

Hosty controls me..... he makes me burn things..... not so much of the domination though[:0]

seriously though britarch does seem to be turning in to the equivelent of an archaeological range war. A lot of it may be people expressing themselves badly and coming across more agressivly than they mean. Ok you can't expect consensus in archaeology, but it would (for a change) be nice to see someone promoting the positives.
