Thanks for that... again... the 'voting... is a required part of being a member) but useful point you make there

Who decided that though! Even though it may be a good idea in practice, what if you don't have access to internet for a month?

Representation is a real issue, and a real problem. I mean, as I pointed out earlier, the musings on this forum do not necessarily constitute a representative voice. Even though it is one of the few outlets for thoughts on archaeology. There are thousands of archaeologists who never look at BAJR, there are others that look at the jobs, that occasionally look at the fora, but don't post. Are they agreeing with all of this? How can we now? Are we all sitting in our bubble talking to each other. I mean look at the number of hits on threads, and then how many reply. Even on this topic which has been widely flagged up within previous threads. Representation and whether a group is representative is wider than just any BAJRfed, it is the same with BAW, and with the druids even!

I agree that getting people to participate is very important. Look at how many people actually joined the Diggers Forum, no wonder it is struggling to make headway, it hasn't been supported by the people it wants to support and represent within the IFA. Fine to put up ideas, which is what you are really doing, but surely it is to be decided by the potential membership, and there needs to be a wide enough discussion of any group before the real details can be written down.

Out of interest, how have you disseminated the fact that this discussion exists. I know individual members of IFA council have seen it on here, but did you put up a thread on Britarch to canvass views? Genuinely interested, not knocking it all, as you know, but to claim representative status for a group, the group needs to know you exist.
Maybe another thread is needed about representation in archaeology? Will have a proper think...

Instead of BAP

BAP is taken anyway - Biodiversity Action Plan - you'll confuse the ecologists if you use it for something else!

Thats where we are just now... ideas... the concept of voting is important.. -- see your own point about the DF... one up for debate that...

Debate on the questions, debate on the answers.. vote... and there is a whole raft of suggestions about how it works in practice (allowing for people being away for a time) also voting restricted to those affected? the West Lothian question..?

Quote:quote:put up a thread on Britarch ?
- please feel free to flag it up... but as Britarch seems to be stuck on whether or not a photo is copyright or not... and has yet to mention anything about what is happening in UK archaeology ... I don't think you will get anything other than mild outrage that some people are doing something.. if you are able to post on Britarch .. please feel free to point them here..

As it stands... this has been posted enough that if you want to get involved you can... I don't see other organisations post as widely... it should be kept in mind that you can't set the bar too high... or at least not higher than IfA etc.. and as yet... there is no organisation to canvass yet... once the details are hammered out here, I will be directly contacting ALL the companies and specialists and student groups and organisations, when we have somethign solid...

to go forward with a half thought out idea would be foolish... you don't want to change your mind all the time.

Call me mad if you like Hosty but things would be sooo much easier if you were Prime Minister or even Minister of Archaeology. I'm sure most folks on BAJR would vote for that.:face-approve:

BAJR Federation - Dirty Dave Lincoln - 13th December 2008

David, while I was looking at the thread by Matthew Law on the survey of UK archaeologists it made me think of possible collaboration between Matthew and friends and the BAJR Federation- could such surveys be useful if the federation takes on a role, like a lobby group,of raising issues with IFA etc? I think a lot of good could come from both working together to produce data that is usable:face-thinks:

BAJR Federation - BAJR Host - 14th December 2008

I agree... I feel the strength comes in cooperation and sharing data... which will back up any arguement. Affiliation with BWA for example as well... AAIS etc...
