Yeah, sorry oldgirl, I've just re-read my last post and it came across as a bit snotty. Also, I haven't actually watched it yet. The boss is a woman though...
Redearth: nice to know I'm not missing out on much from that magazine.
Dr Wardle: I once knew a PhD student studying parks and gardens who was unable to do any of his own magnetometry due to the large number of genital piercings. Apparently a tin todger unbalances the machine...

That made me laugh! Unbalances in what way? ......

Oh, it occurred to me (for the sake of realism which is of course v important to this programme) that most underwire bras no longer have wire (it hurts when you get poked!) and now have plasic. Big Grin

Correct me if I am wrong...

What is bullying at work?

Bullying at work is when someone tries to intimidate another worker, often in front of colleagues. It's usually, though not always, done to someone in a less senior position.

It's similar to harassment, which is where someone's behaviour is offensive - for example, making sexual comments, or abusing someone's race, religion or sexual orientation.

It's not possible to make a legal claim directly about bullying, but complaints can be made under laws covering discrimination and harassment. If you're forced to resign due to bullying you can make a constructive dismissal claim.

Did anyone else notice that when they asked the young man if he had any metal on him, when he was doing the survey, that it looked like he had a big metal clasp holding up his waders?

Bone Kickers - oldgirl - 18th July 2008

Big Grin Good point!

It occurs to me that Mark Horton probably does really believe that this is how archaeology is done today......

Bone Kickers - mercenary - 18th July 2008

Oldgirl, I thought that it looked pretty much like an academic's (Mark Horton) wet dream of what archaeology would be like if he was in charge and PPG16 had never happened. }Smile

Bone Kickers - BAJR Host - 18th July 2008

still no sign of Mark Horton here? Can't understand it? surely real arcaheologists like Mark himself, would be able to discuss this prog..?

Bone Kickers - Digitaldigging - 18th July 2008

Apparently Mark does think this is what a dig is really like - the following quate is from http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/bonekickers/F10617610?thread=5664445

Please though, I'm not a one trick pony, and this is the last post I'm making on this series.

This week.

"As the archaeology advisor to the series, whose reputation is apparently 'hanging by a thread' (dont worry I have very thick skin), can I suggest that you go to the history behind the series section on this website - if you really want to know about archaeology. We explain about Radiocarbon for example and calibration, about preservation processes, and the detailed background the Templars and Grandmontanes. Before you all go off the deep end, consider perhaps whether some of the supposed inaccuracies were not part of the plot (e.g. Viv's overenthusiastic removal of the piece of wood). We have complaints about the lack of finds try labelling - but actually show a label being written out etc..

I am quite happy to defend the show factually and methodologically. Just go near a real dig sometime!!"

Bone Kickers - Digitaldigging - 18th July 2008

And I did mean 'quate' - I'm terribly, terribly posh.Wink

Bone Kickers - BAJR Host - 18th July 2008

Just go near a real dig sometime!!

Thanks DD for grabbing that little nugget.

and Mark (if you are out there), it is your need to defend, and offend people who don't get it... I and others were actually quite shocked at the slagging you were getting.. until you decided to pretend that the portrayal of archaeology is 100% accurate..

A fictional dram.. fine... but please don't pretend that 1980s archaeology is the same as today..

as you say "Just go near a real dig sometime!!""
