Where did everyone go to university? - deepdigger - 20th May 2005 I spent a small fortune on books when i was an undergraduate, i did buy a book by one of the lecturers cos it did look interesting (it was crap) and i was accused of brown nosing, so it never happened again. deep Where did everyone go to university? - Gemma - 22nd May 2005 Finishing my first year at Nottingham Uni in next few days.... from the sounds of everyone else sounds like I have a looooooong way to go... Where did everyone go to university? - deepdigger - 23rd May 2005 Ah yes, a long and interesting journey lies ahead!! deep Where did everyone go to university? - Gemma - 23rd May 2005 Fun as it is here at Nottingham (most amount of bars in a single stretch in Britiain apparantly) and my lecturers are all real sweeties (stark raving mad, but hey variety is the spice and all that) im doing practical archaeology yet only have to do 8 weeks of practical work before i graduate??? Where did everyone go to university? - Oxbeast - 23rd May 2005 More than most places, Gemma. Don't think you'll be snapped up by a unit on graduation. Go for all the practical courses, like pot, skellies and bones, do any surveying if you can and be as good as you can be at computing. It all makes you more employable. Lots of archaeologists have no computer knowledge at all, or its years out of date, so it might make a unit more likely to keep you on. Where did everyone go to university? - troll - 23rd May 2005 Gemma-Greetings! May be able to get you some on-site time if your interested, gizza shout.... ![]() Where did everyone go to university? - Gemma - 23rd May 2005 some on site time would be wicked troll, bit dodgy fitting it in this summer but I can only try.. gimme a shout.[:p] one thing about Notts is that there are very few of us who actually pay our own way, even older students are like children and some I know use their WHOLE loan as spending money! unreal. [:0] Where did everyone go to university? - Moby - 29th May 2005 Bit late but... I also went to Bradford, although had little choice as no one else wanted me (A level results not so desirable). They took a chance on me because I had a bit of digging experience and was obviously keen to see it through and become a 'professional' archaeologist! The town is horrible, however cheapest and best currys ever make up for it! One of the best things about the course was the option to go on a placement year. I spent the whole year working for Birmingham University Field Archaeology Unit (now Birmingham Archaeology) which gave me a solid grounding in commercial fieldwork and good links with a commercial unit. Also got the opportunity to dig in the Shetland Isles which was truly amazing. Can still picture watching killer whales playing 'how high can you throw a seal' through an EDM! [xx(] Where did everyone go to university? - deepdigger - 30th May 2005 C'mon people come to Wales, its by far the best place to study! Join the Tafia like the rest of us, you'll only regret it if you don't!! deep Where did everyone go to university? - ross_k - 2nd June 2005 University of Exeter for undergrad in archy.
