True Or fasle?? - troll - 12th March 2007 The author clearly got his/her degree from a Kinder- egg.Secondly, in the same way that the wearing of a four foot length of material, knotted around the throat is no guarantee of competence and professionalism, what the fek has folical dimensions to do with anything? As it happens, I was always advised not to trust those that wear ties cos it restricts the flow of blood to the brain ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) True Or fasle?? - drpeterwardle - 12th March 2007 According to the yellow pages a few years ago civil engineers had the reputation for being boring. If you looked up boring it said see civil engineers. Peter True Or fasle?? - destroyer - 12th March 2007 Quote:quote:Oh yeah, and getting a sensible haircut and a decent set of clothes would probably help too. Please define what a sensible haircut is? After all long hair and a beard helps keep me warm in winter and prevents sunburn in summer. Plus any visitors to the site can easily recognize the archaeologists. As for being boring? Although my wife thinks I'm a freak I generally find that complete strangers, once they find out what I do, won't shut up asking me about it. so we must be doing something right True Or fasle?? - Beardstroker - 12th March 2007 I'm always being told by my non archaeological friends that " It muct be such a facinating job!",that I'm usually forced into over emphasising how appallingly tedious certain aspects of the job actually are, possibly out of a slight sense of misplaced guilt that I might be having a good time in my career, when they aren't. To be honest, that whole article sounds like it was written by someone who likes their world carefully ordered into stereotypes. Therefore any career involving science (or even more frighteningly, intelligence) has to be practised by people with no social skills and an anally retentive personality. Good thing I'm not going to make a similar judgement based on the rather limited number of journalists i've met over the years, as it wouldn't be terribly flattering True Or fasle?? - garybrun - 12th March 2007 So Im not misunderstood.. it was a joke and I didn't recognise the religion bit in it sorry for that. Its just that I get informed on various archaeological articles when they hit the net. Thanks for the comments... some good ones there. Do Scottish archaeologists wear kilts... is their a national dress code for archaeologists http://www.ukdfd.co.uk Recording OUR heritage for future generations. True Or fasle?? - tom wilson - 13th March 2007 I don't know if archaeologists in Scotland wear kilts, but I have a friend from London with a very fetching kilt made from Hi Vis vests. Is that sensible attire? I also knew a bloke who'd dig in the dead of winter dressed in a sarong. None of the builders gave him any gyp for it as far as I'm aware. Beardstroker and Destroyer, couldn't agree more. If I'm asked by anyone I don't like or haven't the energy to talk to, I say I'm a sub-contractor in the construction industry. Mind you, most of those people who think the job is really interesting glaze over when you tell them about the genuinely interesting bits of mud and stones you've been working on. Chinese proverb True Or fasle?? - BAJR Host - 13th March 2007 I have to say I have loved this thread! And I don't even have a beard... though my wife does think I am a freak.. do I see a patern here! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu True Or fasle?? - garybrun - 13th March 2007 Quote:quote:I'd like to remind Gary that in 1989 archaeologists were voted the second most sexy Londoners (after cycle couriers) by readers of Time Out magazine. (I guess we might even make it to number one if a similar poll was held by The Big Issue). So boring we may be, but still waters could well run deep....I think the still waters have dried up mate.... But you can always blame it on global warming. http://www.ukdfd.co.uk Recording OUR heritage for future generations.
