I would not want to be a first aider, to risky especially in todays no win no fee world, the extra pay would never balance out the risks. And what happened to a mate helped make my mind up as when he went to help someone as a first aider he had a bad experince.

Recently I took my first aid thingie.

We were told that there has recently been a case thrown out of court. A man was trying to sue the young man who saved his life through administering first aid but potentially agrivated a spinal injury.

Now this presidence has been made, we were told that less of these litigation cases against firstaiders will be allowed through the courts.

Finally a little sense. If your going to save someones life surely its worth the risk?

In Britain first-aiders are protected from legal action by the Good Samaritan Act. In answer to Digger, I do not think it is unreasonable to expect more pay as a first-aider has to spend time constantly revising first aid skills and checking first aid boxes. Unless of course they believe they are completely capable to handle any medical situation after doing a 4-day course.

Sucking chest wounds are as far as I go Sea! Was just my own personal opinion about payment. Understand that other feel the extra responsibility would warant renumeration. Perhaps if they just paid us more overall.... whoops, here we go again.
