Wessex Archaeology’s Northern office is five years old and they are celebrating another busy year with a team of nearly 50 staff.
The Sheffield office team has almost trebled in size since opening, as has turnover – which pushes them ahead of the target of £1.35 million this year.
Highlights for 2014 include three paid interns through the University of Sheffield, Santander and Sheffield City Council; recruiting 14 archaeologists form the local area; joining the planning and construction groups of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and working with the University of Sheffield to attract our next intake of new recruits.
New this year is a programme of training courses for clients and the team in general continue to work on a wide range of interesting archaeological and heritage projects.
Key schemes this year include continuing work at FARRRS [Read more here] and Rossington [Read more here]; exciting discoveries on the Severn Trent Water pipeline across the River Trent [Read more here]; working on the 19th century Elsecar Beam Engine renovations [Read more here]; and returning to Wakefield Cathedral [Read more here].
