SCHARP counts over 1000 coastal site surveys

Current Article Views: 234 views

The first chapter of SCHARP, generously funded and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland, the University of St Andrews and the Crown Estate is complete.

Over the past 4 years people have submitted over 1,000 surveys of archaeological sites around Scotland’s coasts and have visited 90% of the highest priority sites under most threat from erosion.

There is now a much clearer picture of Scotland’s vulnerable coastal heritage and an updated list of priority sites in each region.

Go to the Results & Highlights page of the website for a summary of results or read the full report.

You also put forward great ideas and work with them on ShoreDIG projects.

The range of approaches and techniques applied in ShoreDIGs make inspirational case studies of what can be achieved with eroding coastal heritage. You can get the latest results on all projects on the ShoreDIGs page of the website and a flavour of some of them in the films on the ShoreDIG Vimeo channel.  Like the one below:
