I agree with David - detecting rallies are a fact of life and the opportunity to work with a rally in terms of demonstrating on site recording and using the information to elaborate on the hinterland of the site could be a big step forward in developing better relationships between archaeologists and metal detectors. The rally site is in an area where afaik there is not a great deal recorded (and one of the major items is the 'possible' line of a Roman road.
Anyone wanting to come and help Mr Hosty on the day would be more than welcome I am sure.

Yes I am, I am leading the archaeology team that will be helping to record all the artefacts. Be there from Thursday to Monday....
