Oh yes... you lucky people... [8D]

Due to the last-minute withdrawal of a prospective student, a funded place has become available on one of our MSc courses.

MSc in Archaeological Prospection - Shallow Geophysics (1 year).

The course provides detailed training in geophysical techniques suitable for shallow investigations, which are also commonly used in archaeology (see Time Team). Students will gain an understanding of the principles, and are trained in field practice and data processing. Techniques covered include Ground Penetrating Radar, earth resistance and magnetic survey. In addition, a thorough introduction to soils and chemical prospection provides a wider perspective on other available methods.

The studentship covers all University fees and (for UK students) a living allowance of £7900 as well as £500 field expenses. The course starts on 25 September 2006.

A tad disturbed by this sire......
There are also scholarships for 3 lucky peeps on the MSc Osteo and Palaeopath course at said uni too. I applied last year and was lucky enough to end up as first reserve (or fourth if ya like:D)and therefore could`nt go. I would be a bit disturbed if I was to find my place advertised on a website when in fact, it should go to a reserve...... what does this mean? Am I naive and in fact there are hundreds of us that all got "first reserve"?:face-huh::D

Troll, naive? Say it ain't so :D

My thoughts were that it was incredibly short notice (15 days or so max), so maybe all the reserves had got themselves all mixed up in other gainful employment [?]

It was very very short notice.... though you may be right... They got lots of replies, but normally would not do this.

I suspect that the reason this place is being advertised is that there might not have been enough applicants to have had a reserve lined up for it. When I did the same course two years ago only three of us took it (compared with 11 taking the osteology and palaeopathology MSc), and I know that the following year there was only one student on the course. I don't know what the situation is this year but I would not be surprised if numbers were similarly low again, hence the need to advertise at short notice.
