Hi,
can anybody point me in the right direction with regards to an 'archaeology101' ie basic understanding of the concepts/practices regarding recording items from a dig.

I should explain I am a responsible hobby detectorist (don't shoot!) and am interested in making sure that any items I found are recorded correctly such that the information I pass on is as useful as possible.
I already record NGR depth etc, but on a dig, do you record soil types etc?
- If anybody can point me towards some dig reports that would be great.
many thanks

Hi Celticchris, one for recording that could be helpful is the Molas Site Manual its £18 from Molas or Museum of London you can order over the internet.

I've found it very helpful on site.

May god go with you in all the dark places you must walk.

thankyou both for the info - the website looks very interesting (I'm beginning to understand the constant reference to 'Harris' :D )
And I'll be ordering the site manual as it looks a good read

thanks
